WCTF CONDUCTS STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENTS

The Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund (WCTF) is conducting a stakeholder engagement
exercise in Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Nairobi and Laikipia counties to gather views to enrich
its inaugural strategic plan.
WCTF is a resource mobilization and conservation financing institution whose mandate
is to mobilize resources, build partnerships and provide financing mechanisms that can
support priority conservation interventions across national parks, reserves, sanctuaries,
conservancies and communities living with wildlife, and it was therefore critical to
engage and incorporate stakeholders’ views.
Participants were drawn from the southern and northern landscapes who commended
the Government for establishing the WCTF to streamline the conservation financing
sector. They acknowledged that there are many players in the conservation field but
some were taking advantage of their vulnerability to disinherit them and in some cases
failed to remit their dues as expected.
In Kajiado county, the team harnessed indigenous knowledge critical in the
conservation space from leaders of the community conservancies in a meeting held at
Isinet in Kimana. Various issues were discussed in the different forums that included;
transparency and accountability, community and livelihood support, training and
research, awareness creation and public education, proposal writing and consensus
reached on priorities suitable for each region.
Another engagement for the southern landscape was held at Voi sub county
headquarters and participants were excited about the establishment of WCTF and
expressed satisfaction that it will streamline and fill the existing gaps on funding
matters in the conservation sector.
WCTF engaged the University of Nairobi Enterprise Services (UNES) on a G-to-G basis
to develop its Strategic Plan that will guide its operation from 2025- 2030. The lead
consultant is Dr. Lazarus Mulwa.
During the exercise, the WCTF Governing Board was led by George Mosiori together
with Caroline Tullo, the Ag. CEO and Head of Secretariat.
The Nairobi and Laikipia stakeholder engagements are slated for the month of October,
2026.
