Nairobi Stakeholder Consultations

Principal Secretary for Wildlife, Silvia Museiya today met with conservation partners during a stakeholder consultation forum on the inaugural Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund’s (WCTF) strategic plan and echoed the need to have it well-resourced to achieve its mandate.
She emphasized that the strategic plan should establish WCTF as a dependable institution for mobilizing and directing conservation finance to support conservation efforts and research.
The Board Chair, Lucy Warunigi noted that it was imperative for the Strategic Plan to be informed by realities on the ground and any significant changes in the sector.
The forum brought together stakeholders in biodiversity and conservation space who observed that biodiversity was a growing area of concern that requires increased investment and called for the involvement of private sector and other philanthropic bodies as finance sources.
There were calls for WCTF to explore a variety of innovative sources of financing to support its operations to ensure success in conservation and biodiversity. The participants called for increased public awareness and public education on conservation matters and biodiversity as a way of increasing knowledge about the Fund's operations and value preposition of biodiversity.
Stakeholders also called for increased involvement of the youth in conservation matters as well as technology and innovation to harness all the available resources in support of the cause.
